Amateur Golf Talk LIVE! Welcomes Tom Sullivan of the Atlantic City Golf Association
Shan Coughlin host of Amateur Golf Talk LIVE! welcomes Tom Sullivan, President of the Atlantic City Golf Association. With eighteen courses in the Association, there is one or more to fit all budgets, styles and ability. Tom talks with Shan about all that Atlantic City has to offer both on and off the course. Golf Magazine has ranked Atlantic City in the top ten (8th) for Best Bachelor Party Cities for Golfers and The Golf Channel ranked it 9th for Best Budget Buddy Trips. Whatever your passion, every golf course within the Atlantic City area – only 30 minutes from the furthest ones – has something to offer providing a daylight version of the glitz and glimmer of the high-rise casinos and world famous boardwalk.
One quote about golf Shan reads rings especially true in a place like Atlantic City – “But the thing that a day on the course does best of all, perhaps, is stoke up an appetite – not just for more golf, but for fine food and beverage.” There are historic restaurants from the Rat Pack days as well as Iron Chef owned establishments and traditional pub fare both at the Golf Courses and close by. At McCullough’s Emerald Golf Links for example, a decades old landmark steakhouse formerly across town on Black Horse Pike has relocated and that famed restaurant is of course, the Library III. From steaks to wine, there is also the Renault Winery which opened in the public in 1870 and grew to become the largest producer of champagne in the US at one point. Much of that land now has been turned into a romantic destination, the Tuscany Hotel, which opened in 2001 with golf added in 2004 with Vineyard Golf at Renault. Hole #7 is the most memorable hole there with an elevated tee box that is totally surrounded by the vineyard.
Known as the crown jewel in Ron Jawarski’s golf stables, Running Deer Golf Club is host to Antlers Pub. Enjoy this serene golf experience followed up with a relaxing meal surrounded by dark wood appointments and stunning views of the golf course. Not to be outdone, the Blue Heron Pines Golf Club opened its 7 Tap & Tavern on March 15th with the name originated from the number Jaworski wore during his NFL career.
While we can’t talk about them all here, The Atlantic City Country Club cannot be left out as
one of the oldest clubs in the nation, founded in 1897. This gem of a course features the freshly renovated Tap Room Bar and Grille with views to the course, tranquil bay and striking Atlantic City Skyline.
