ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (April 10, 2017) – Now celebrating its 15th year, the 2017 Atlantic City Airshow will return to the skies above the beautiful free beaches and Boardwalk in Atlantic City on Wednesday, August 23, 2017. GEICO will return as the presenting sponsor of this event, as announced by Greater Atlantic City Chamber President Joe Kelly, the show’s organizer.
“We are excited to welcome back the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, and Geico to celebrate our 15th anniversary of presenting Atlantic City’s signature summer event,” said Greater Atlantic City Chamber President Joe Kelly. “This event has helped to drive tourism to our destination during the midweek and showcase Atlantic City’s great amenities to hundreds of thousands of visitors,” he added.
The USAF Air Demonstration Squadron (“Thunderbirds”) is the air demonstration squadron of the United States Air Force (USAF). The Thunderbirds are based at Nellis AFB, Nevada and perform aerial demonstrations in the F-16C Fighting Falcon, and they also fly two F-16D twin-seat trainers. Much of the Thunderbirds’ display alternates between maneuvers performed by the diamond, and those performed by the opposing solos, all with magnificent accuracy and precision.
In addition to the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds, confirmed for the 2017 show are U. S. Army Golden Knights Parachute Team, the GEICO Skytypers, Jim Beasley Jr.’s P51D Mustang demonstration. This year’s Atlantic City Airshow will also feature a U.S. Navy F18 Super Hornet. Most of the performers will take off and land at the Atlantic City International Airport, which serves as the host airport for the airshow.
“The CRDA is pleased to support the Atlantic City Airshow, one of the region’s largest events,” said CRDA Executive Director Chris Howard. “The show attracts hundreds of thousands of spectators and is a key component of our efforts to increase tourism in Atlantic City.”
The Atlantic City Airshow is a community partnership between the Greater Atlantic City Chamber; the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority; the City of Atlantic City; the 177th Fighter Wing of the N.J. Air National Guard; South Jersey Transportation Authority; FAA William J. Hughes Tech Center; The Atlantic City International Airport; David Schultz Airshows, LLC; and many others. The Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa is the host hotel for the event.
