ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (August 22, 2013) — Free entertainment and events take place all week long  in Atlantic City through sponsorship, entertainment grants and funding provided by the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA), as well as events sponsored by the City of Atlantic City, the Atlantic City Alliance, the Atlantic City Free Public Library, area attractions and the casinos.  Visitors and residents alike are sure to find something to enjoy from the DO AC FREE top picks for the week of August 26h – September 1st.   

  • DO A New 3-D Light and Sound Show

Debuting Thursday, August 29:

Taking on a life of its own, the façade of Historic Boardwalk Hall is transformed nightly into a 3-D spectacle using sophisticated 3-D projections and an original musical score.  “AC Dreamin,’” the fourth 3-D sound and light show conceived and created by Montreal-based Moment Factory, debuts on August 29th with more details to be announced shortly. The show runs every half hour beginning at 9:30 p.m.  Best viewing area is at Kennedy Plaza in front of Boardwalk Hall.   www.doatlanticcity.com.

Thursday, August 29:

Sponsored in part by the Atlantic City Alliance, the Phillies at the Beach Viewing Party offers fans the chance to see a game between the Phillies and the Mets from a massive mobile movie screen.  Fans will have the opportunity to partake in many pre-game activities including sand-sculpting lessons, trivia, prizes and more, as well as enjoy appearances by the Phillie Phanatic and the Phillies Ballgirls.  Viewing party starts at Noon on the beach at Arkansas Avenue,  www.phillies.com/beach.

Fitness awaits in Atlantic City’s art parks.  Produced by the Atlantic City Alliance in partnership with the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority, Mind, Body & Soul ARTLANTIC offers the following events:

Etude Atlantis (California Avenue/Boardwalk)

Monday thru Sunday – Tilton Fitness:  Bootcamp – 9:00 a.m.; Zumba – 10:00 a.m.

Monday & Wednesday – Tilton Fitness:  PiYo – 8:00 a.m.

Monday, August 26 & Friday, August 30:

ACUA Wastewater Treatment Facility provides tours of the Jersey-Atlantic Wind Farm, the first coastal wind farm in the United States.  ACUA’s Wastewater Treatment Facility is the largest hybrid wind and solar powered treatment facility in the world.  The wind farm is located at

1801 Absecon Boulevard.  Tours are from Noon – 1:00 p.m. (609) 272-6950.

Wednesday, August 28:

Atlantic City Free Public Library and the City of Atlantic City host Kinding Sindaw as part of the International Night Concert Series at KennedyPlaza on the Boardwalk. Kinding Sindaw is a dance theater ensemble group that performs the dance and music of the Philippines.  The repertoire features dances that combine grace and vigor; and the musical accompaniment is performed on a variety of percussion instruments, including a tuned bronze kettle drum set, hanging gongs and cylindrical drums.  Show starts at 7:00 p.m.  (609) 345-2269 ext. 3064.

 

Wednesday, August 28 thru Saturday, August 31:

They’re back and ready to get the party started at Ego Bar & Lounge.  Trump Taj Mahal’s Almost Angels will captivate audiences with their signature renditions of pop/dance hits with an all new production, props and costumes.  Show times are Wednesday and Thursday – 9:30 p.m., 11:10 p.m. and 12:50 a.m.; Friday and Saturday – 10:30 p.m. 12:10 a.m. and 1:50 a.m.  Free to standing patrons ONLY.  MUST BE 21 YEARS OR OLDER.  (609) 449-1000.

 

Thursday, August 29 thru Sunday, September 1:

Every 30 minutes, the lobby at Caesars becomes an Ancient Roman arena as two armor-clad soldiers battle for all the glory during a Gladiatorial Combat show that will prove fun for all ages.  Show times are Thursday and Friday – 2:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.; Saturday and Sunday – 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.

Mind, Body & Soul ARTLANTIC presents ArcheDream for Humankind at Etude Atlantis (California Avenue/Boardwalk).  ArcheDream for Humankind is an international touring blacklight mask and dance theatre company, who merges ancient ritual and magical storytelling with modern technology in their unique performances.  Show starts at 9:00 p.m. and runs until 11:00 p.m.

 

Friday, August 30 thru Sunday, September 1:

Trump Taj Mahal will bring the acrobatic skill and comedic talents of Rudi Macaggi to its Main Concourse. A Season Five contestant of America’s Got Talent, Rudi will delight and inspire with his incredible balancing act and humor, all while delivering his friendly catchphrase, “I like you.”  Shows are Friday – 7:30 p.m. & 9:30 p.m.; Saturday – 4:30 p.m., 7:30 p.m. & 9:30 p.m.; and

Sponsored by the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority, Atlantic City Farmers Market will offer live entertainment featuring the Special Occasion Band.  The Farmers Market is located at Center City Park on Atlantic Avenue between North Carolina and South Carolina Avenues.  Hours are 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.  Entertainment starts at Noon.

 

Chicken Bone Beach Historical Foundation, Inc. and Atlantic City Free Public Library present

Jazz on the Beach at Kennedy Plaza on the Boardwalk.  Catch Alan Nelson & Lines of Reason with opening act, Kenny Hollis & Friends.  Show starts at 7:00 p.m.  (609) 441-9064.

Take the road less traveled with a Road to the Crown Walking Tour.  Begin your adventure in the lobby level rotunda of the Sheraton Atlantic City Convention Center Hotel and end sharing your experience in the lobby of Historic Boardwak Hall.  Along the way, the history of Miss America will present itself before your eyes. Enjoy the dress display and shoe bar; marvel at the historical video and the replca of the first trophy, be “crowned” by Bert Parks, gaze at the wonders of the vinyl window graphics and tiptoe through the Miss America Rose Walk.  A Road to the Crown Walking Tour map is available to guide your journey.

Highlights from the classic Broadway musical will be performed by the current cast of the Greater Ocean City Theatre Company’s summer production.

This talented duo performs many favorite musical standards.

Daily:

Miss America Video Booth

Capture and share the spirit of Miss America memories at the new video booth located in the lobby of Boardwalk Hall. The video booth is available for visitors to record their favorite memories then share on social media networks.  The booth is open during Boardwalk Hall hours.

Artlantic

A seven-acre exhibition site, located on Pacific Avenue between Martin Luther King Boulevard and South Indiana Avenues in Atlantic City, includes works by Robert Barry, Ilya and Emilia Kabakov and Kiki Smith. The site currently includes two open spaces with two sculptures surrounded by 14-foot-high and 11- foot high undulating terraces covered in indigenous grasses and wildflowers. The Kabakov sculpture is a large, wooden pirate ship. Opposite the ship is a life-sized version of “Her,” a bronze sculpture of a woman embracing a doe by Smith surrounded by a red-themed garden. Embedded in the landscape surrounding both open spaces are Robert Barry’s illuminated text pieces. The landscape design is by Balmori Associates. The second installation, “Étude Atlantis,” a large-scale optical illusion by artist John Roloff, is located at California Avenue and the Boardwalk.

Water Show

The Water Show at The Pier Shops at Caesars is a six-minute multi-sensory presentation of water, light and sound. Show runs every hour on the hour. (609) 345-3100.
