ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (August 29, 2013) — Free entertainment and events take place all week long in Atlantic City through sponsorship, entertainment grants and funding provided by the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA), as well as events sponsored by the Atlantic City Alliance, area attractions and the casinos. - DO Volleyball
Friday, September 6 thru Sunday, September 8:
Watch world-class, Olympic athletes compete in the DO AC Pro Volleyball Invitational. Three-time Olympic gold medalist Kerri Walsh and her partner Whitney Pavlik will be playing in AC along with New Jersey native Ryan Doherty of Toms River with his partner, Olympian Todd Rogers. This is the only world-class pro beach volleyball event on the East Coast this summer and one of the most competitive beach volleyball tournaments of the year. You can watch for free, however VIP tickets are also available. Saturday, September 7
The Atlantic City Arts Commission and The Noyes Museum of Art of RichardStocktonCollege present the Atlantic City Boardwalk Art Show at Kennedy Plaza, located in front of Boardwalk Hall. More than 70 artists representing an eclectic mix of traditional and non-traditional art mediums, graffiti art, body painting and more will showcase and sell their wares. Additionally, the performance arts will be represented by jazz performances and live full length theater shows. Futuristic sculptures, graphic designs, illustrations, repurposed metals, collage, photography and outsider art will add a whole new dimension to the show. Organic artistic elements including fiber art, etchings, basket designs, pottery and jewelry will also contribute to the diversity of the show. Take the road less traveled with a Road to the Crown Walking Tour. Begin your adventure in the lobby level rotunda of the Sheraton Atlantic City Convention Center Hotel and end by sharing your experience in the lobby of Historic Boardwak Hall. Along the way, the history of Miss America will present itself before your eyes. Enjoy the dress display and shoe bar; marvel at the historical video and the replica of the first trophy, be “crowned” by Bert Parks, gaze at the wonders of the vinyl window graphics and tiptoe through the Miss America Rose Walk. The Casino Reinvestment Development Authority and the Atlantic City Alliance have partnered with The Noyes Museum of Art of Richard Stockton College to create the AC Waterfront Sculpture Walk.
The winding trail begins just across from Farley State Marina at Golden Nugget and continues to Harrah’s. It is appointed with lush landscape, benches, attractive lighting and stellar waterfront and eco-friendly views. Sculptures along the trail add a new dimension of beauty and appreciation to the arts.
- DO A New 3-D Light and Sound Show
“AC Dreamin’” transforms the façade of Boardwalk Hall into a modern fairy tale. The show follows a magical dream shared by two friends as they navigate through a mysterious train station, a luxurious hotel, a crazy theme park, a surreal lighthouse, a dreamy underwater world and the fantastic Boardwalk at night. Miss America Video Booth
Capture and share the spirit of Miss America memories at the new video booth located in the lobby of Boardwalk Hall. The video booth is available for visitors to record their favorite memories then share on social media networks. The booth is open during Boardwalk Hall hours.
A seven-acre exhibition site, located on Pacific Avenue between Martin Luther King Boulevard and South Indiana Avenues in Atlantic City, includes works by Robert Barry, Ilya and Emilia Kabakov and Kiki Smith. The site currently includes two open spaces with two sculptures surrounded by 14-foot-high and 11- foot high undulating terraces covered in indigenous grasses and wildflowers. The Kabakov sculpture is a large, wooden pirate ship. Opposite the ship is a life-sized version of “Her,” a bronze sculpture of a woman embracing a doe by Smith surrounded by a red-themed garden. Embedded in the landscape surrounding both open spaces are Robert Barry’s illuminated text pieces. The landscape design is by Balmori Associates. The second installation, “Étude Atlantis,” a large-scale optical illusion by artist John Roloff, is located at California Avenue and the Boardwalk.
The Water Show at The Pier Shops at Caesars is a six-minute multi-sensory presentation of water, light and sound. Show runs every hour on the hour. (609) 345-3100.
