CRDA Board Approves Funding for Additional Entertainment and Enhancements throughout Atlantic City Tourism District
Special Events, Lighting and Beautification Projects Included
(Atlantic City, NJ, August 19, 2014) – Continuing their program designed to provide more entertainment options and a fresh, comfortable environment for visitors and residents, the Board of the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA) today approved several funding measures. “CRDA and our marketing and business partners are committed to ensuring that Atlantic City has a bright future as we guide its evolution to an entertainment-based resort destination,” said CRDA Board Chairman James Kehoe.
The success of the summer’s expansive schedule of free concerts and Movies Under the Stars prompted a $75,000 supplemental fund reservation for events to be held through the balance of the 2014. Likewise, the Board approved a program grant of $25,000 to DelMo Sports, Inc., for production of the 2014 Atlantic City Triathlon, which is expected to draw more than 1,000 athletes for a variety of running, swimming and paddling events on September 14.
A $33,209 supplemental fund reservation was also approved to address additional manpower, material and security costs for Tony Mart Productions, LLC, producer of nine summer concerts on the beach and Boardwalk.
CRDA also approved a supplemental fund reservation of $83,000 for the conversion of street lights from Pacific Avenue to the bay along Bellevue, Texas, Florida and Georgia avenues. This expands the project that originally was only along Pacific Avenue and cross streets to the Boardwalk.
The ramp on Montpelier Avenue leading to the Boardwalk will be rebuilt and expanded to provide additional open space at the street end. CRDA awarded a bid to L. Feriozzi Concrete Company, Inc., in the amount of $130,400 to complete the project.
The Board also approved a resolution to expand the Atlantic Avenue Façade Program to the entire Atlantic City Tourism District. The next step is to design criteria to determine which areas of the Tourism District qualify for new facades.
Additionally, the Board approved a $19,800 intergovernmental grant requested by the City of Atlantic City for a study to research the best practices in taxi codes and recommend updates to the current codes.
According to John Palmieri, executive director of the CRDA, “The actions taken today are another step in keeping Atlantic City relevant for visitors.”
Board actions will take effect following the expiration of the Governor’s statutory review period.
