CRDA Releases 2020 Annual Report

ATLANTIC CITY, NJ (July 12, 2021) – The Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA),  recently released it’s 2020 Annual Report according to CRDA Executive Director Matt Doherty.

In 2020, the CRDA, like many organizations, shifted operations to accommodate virtual work environments for a majority of its employees. Despite the many challenges, the CRDA managed to make a substantial commitment to the City of Atlantic City through various initiatives outlined in the report.

“The CRDA played a pivotal role in stabilizing services during the pandemic,” said Doherty. “We were able to assist Atlantic City and the Murphy administration in many areas, including the Atlantic City Convention Center Field Medical Station, as well as making substantial financial commitments to the Atlantic City community by addressing food insecurity during this unprecedented time.”

Of significance in 2020, the CRDA committed $2.68M to community development projects that targeted the immediate social needs of Atlantic City residents due the pandemic. In addition, the creation of the Feed AC initiative was a first of its kind collaboration with the Community Food Bank of New Jersey, Local 54, NJ AFL-CIO, the casino industry and local government agencies that totaled over $1.13M.

The CRDA also collaborated with AtlantiCare to fund a major healthcare expansion initiative, with a commitment of $15 million dollars for the project which will bring much needed critical health services to the Atlantic City community.

The CRDA also continued its support of higher education and economic development by awarding $3.1M to the ACDEVCO/Stockton University campus expansion project.

2020 also saw the launch of the EngageAC platform, which provides key demographic data from the U.S. Census for Atlantic City and serves as the foundation for future policy creation and decision-making.

The Special Improvement Division was designated essential and its employees performed essential duties throughout the Tourism District during the pandemic. This report also provides a listing of deliverables executed by the Special Improvement District division during the pandemic.

The report is intended to highlight the critical work and accomplishments performed at the CRDA this past year in the areas of economic development and community development.
