ATLANTIC CITY (October 15, 2018) – The Casino Reinvestment Development Authority and Meet AC are trying to woo a premier trade convention that could expand the resort’s marketability.
The CRDA board will consider approving a fund reservation of $1.4 million to support Meet AC’s bid to host the Connect Marketplace 2020 Convention at Boardwalk Hall and the Atlantic City Convention Center during Tuesday’s public meeting.
The Connect Marketplace Convention is an annual conference and appointment-only trade show which brings together planners, suppliers and experts in association, expo, corporate, sports and specialty meetings and events.
The convention could introduce Atlantic City to event, expo and meeting planners from around the country and expand the resort’s marketability for future events, according to a CRDA spokesperson.
Meet AC, the resort’s marketing and promotional organization that is partially funded by CRDA, is a sponsor of the Connect Marketplace 2018 Convention in Louisville, Kentucky.
Also Tuesday, the board is expected to:
- Vote on designating certain properties within the Tourism District as surplus and consider putting them up for public auction. According to CRDA officials, six remnant properties — meaning they cannot be used for larger development projects — totaling 0.6 acres will be considered. The total assessed value of the lots is approximately $752,000.
- Consider a contract for grocery store development consulting firm Uplift Solutions. The contract is not to exceed $157,500 for services. The northern end of the island is a Census tract that is classified as a food desert by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, meaning the community lacks sufficient access to a grocery store or supermarket.
- Consider a contract to Mudshare, LLC for geospatial marketing services, in an amount not to exceed $600,000. The services would allow CRDA to capture data from mobile users within certain areas and target specific demographics based on users’ habits. The data, which would be owned by CRDA, could then be used for destination marketing through SMS, email, automated voicemail, ringless drops and social media.
