Stockton University’s Donna Albano To Receive 2016 ‘Spirit of Hospitality’ Award at the 19th Annual Host Awards
~ Awards Ceremony to take place May 4 ~
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – (Tuesday, March 1, 2016) – The Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (CRDA) will name Donna Albano, an Associate Professor in the Hospitality & Tourism Management Studies (HTMS) Program at Stockton University’s School of Business, as the Spirit of Hospitality honoree during this year’s Host Awards on May 4.
Presented each year at the Annual Atlantic City Host Awards banquet, the Spirit of Hospitality Award is bestowed upon an outstanding individual who has made a long-lasting and significant contribution to the Atlantic City region’s hospitality and travel industry. Most importantly, this award embodies the recipient’s spirit and dedication to serving the visitors who come to Atlantic City.
Chosen as a 2015 Stockton University Faculty Member of the Year, Professor Albano is no stranger to the hospitality and travel industry, having served as Director of the HTMS program from 2000‐2014 and as Coordinator of Academic Programs for the Lloyd D. Levenson Institute of Gaming, Hospitality & Tourism. Donna is a member of several education and hospitality industry associations including the International Council of Hotel, Restaurant and Institutional Educators (ICHRIE) where she has held several leadership roles. She is also an active member of the Greater Atlantic City Concierge Association/Scholarship Committee, Somers Point Business Association Board of Trustees, Greater Atlantic City Chamber of Commerce, Philadelphia Hotel Association, SKAL International Association of Travel and Tourism Professionals, the Atlantic City Host Awards Selection Committee and The Howard Bacharach Scholarship Foundation. Donna was also recently inducted into the Chaîne des Rôtisseurs an International Association of Gastronomy.
“As a member of our local hospitality industry for over 25 years in both industry and academia, it’s an honor and pleasure to represent the ‘Spirit’ of Hospitality,” said Albano. I am passionate about the role I play as a hospitality educator and take seriously the responsibility of bridging the next generation of hospitality professionals to our industry.”
Past recipients of the Spirit of Hospitality Award include Jean Muchanic, executive director of Absecon Lighthouse (2015); the late Atlantic City radio personality Pinky Kravitz (2005); and Nelson Johnson, author of the book, Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times and Corruption of Atlantic City, and current judge on the Superior Court of New Jersey (2011).
This year’s Annual Host Awards will take place on Wednesday, May 4 in the Adrian Phillips Ballroom at Historic Boardwalk Hall. Registration and reception commence at 5:30 pm with the formal dinner and awards ceremony beginning at 6:30 pm. All nominations may be mailed, emailed or delivered to the CRDA, 2314 Pacific Avenue, Atlantic City, NJ 08401 and received no later than Tuesday, March 15. The nomination committee, which is comprised of hospitality and business professionals, will review all submissions in confidence, and up to five (5) finalists will be chosen in each category.

Henning Award); Best Retail Sales Associate; Best Valet; Best Door Person; Best Bell Person; Best Room Service Personnel; Best Butler; Best Room Attendant/Housekeeper; Best Food Production Personnel; Best Guest Services/Concierge; Best Heart/Back of the House Personnel; Best Reservationist; Best Security Personnel; Best Casino Games Personnel (Ray Kot Award); Best Casino Support Personnel; Best Public Area Personnel; Best Cashier; Best Cocktail Server; and Best Spa Personnel.
All proceeds from this event benefit the CRDA Foundation, Inc., which is a non-profit 501 C3 public charity that is committed to providing financial and in-kind assistance to initiatives that enhance Atlantic City’s standing as a first-class destination resort. The Foundation supports efforts to expand multi-cultural tourism and hospitality interests in the Atlantic City region.
