Summer of Accolades for Atlantic City
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ – (Tuesday, August 9, 2016) – Various Atlantic City destinations, events, casino hotel properties, venues and industry executives have been recognized this summer as among the best in their respective fields by prominent publications, leaders and readers.
As part of its America’s Favorite Places survey, Travel+Leisure magazine named Atlantic City the 11th Best Beach Town in the country, besting Myrtle Beach, SC; Newport, RI; St. Augustine, FL; and Carmel-by-the-Sea, CA. Also, the Atlantic City beach and Boardwalk was ranked as the 10th Best Boardwalk in the United States by USA Today’s 10Best Reader’s Choice poll.
The Annual Atlantic City Beer Festival was ranked the 2nd Best Beer Festival behind Denver’s Great American Best Festival in a USA Today’s 10Best Reader’s Choice poll.
Historic Boardwalk Hall, which is owned by the CRDA, was recognized by two industry publications as one of the best venues in the world. Venues Today Magazine ranked Boardwalk Hall as the 11th 2016 Mid-Year “Top Stop” in the world and 6th “Top Stop” in the United States based on a seating capacity between 10,001 and 15,000. This ranking was based on event/concert grosses reported to the magazine. Also, Pollstar Magazine ranked Boardwalk Hall 126th overall and 71st in the United States in its Top 200 Venues in Mid-Year Worldwide Ticket Sales during the first half of 2016 for non-sporting events at venues of all sizes.
Three popular Atlantic City restaurants were recognized too. Café 2825 on Atlantic Avenue was recognized by NJ.com as the Reader’s Choice Best Italian Restaurant in New Jersey, topping nine other establishments from throughout the state. New Jersey Monthly Magazine named the century-old Knife and Fork Inn one of its five new Best New Jersey Restaurants of 2016 thanks to its outstanding culinary reputation and romantic European elegance. In another USA Today 10Best Reader’s Choice poll, the iconic White House Subs on Mississippi Avenue was ranked the 2nd Best Italian Sub/Hoagie in New Jersey.
Resorts Casino Hotel, the city’s first casino property to open in 1978, was awarded the “Best Renovation” 2016 Pinnacle Award by readers of Successful Meetings magazine. Since 2012, Resorts has invested more than $100 million in renovations to the property by adding the popular Jimmy Buffett-themed Margaritaville entertainment venue, 12 new meeting rooms in a 12,000-square-foot conference center and extensive hotel room improvements in the Ocean Tower.
Tropicana Atlantic City was honored with three key awards and received special recognition by leaders in the meeting, tourism/lifestyle and online gaming industries.
- Celebrating the most popular properties, hotels, resorts, cruise lines and convention/conference centers throughout North America, Smart Meetings Magazine, named Tropicana the “Best Gaming/Casino Hotel” in its 2016 Smart Stars Awards contest.
- eGaming Review Magazine named TropicanaCasino.com the “Best Online Casino Operator” at the 2016 eGR North America Awards in San Francisco, California. This was the second consecutive year that Tropicana has earned this award.
- Lifestyle media publisher Pop Sugar Inc. named Tropicana Atlantic City one of “14 of the World’s Coolest Casinos” in the online publication’s March 2016 issue. Pop Sugar Inc. labeled the Tropicana as “a place where gambling enthusiasts can go nuts” and also recognized the Tropicana for having been voted the “Luckiest” Atlantic City casino by Casino Player Magazine for several years running.
The Atlantic City Free Public Library was honored with a 2016 New Jersey State Library Multicultural Award for its “Atlantic City Experience: La Ciudad Atlántica” exhibit in celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month last October. The award, which was presented at the Annual New Jersey Library Association Conference on May 18, recognizes outstanding library programs that increase understanding and promote multiculturalism through sustainable and creative programming.
Atlantic City Convention Center General Manager Karen Totaro, CFE was recognized as a recipient of the Facilities & Destinations 2015 Elite Award by Facilities & Destinations publication. Totaro became the facility’s general manager in January 2014 and is employed by Spectra by Comcast Spectacor, which provides venue management and food services & hospitality for the Convention Center, which is owned by the CRDA. Totaro was also recognized in 2015 by Venues Today Magazine as a “Woman of Influence.”
